annecto celebrates NAIDOC week across NSW

Sydney Pix 079 Indigenous dancers at NAIDOC 2015

This year, annecto are key sponsors of the annual Western Sydney NAIDOC Dinner Dance, being held in Sydney on 16 July 2016.  This event gives over 500 people a chance to come together, honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and celebrate achievements and the work done to improve the lives of others in the community.

The Western Sydney NAIDOC Dinner Dance includes the National NAIDOC awards.  This year annecto will be sponsoring the ‘Person of the Year’ and the ‘Agency’ Awards.

annecto Sydney Manager Michael Hercock says recognising the contributions of so many during NAIDOC Week is important for everyone in the community as a reminder of the contributions individuals make.

“Often people get on with the everyday and don’t stop to think about how significant, even the smallest contributions can make in a community.”

Further south, annecto’s Mildura office is also participating in the Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation NAIDOC Community Day on 13 July 2016 at the George Gordon Oval in Dareton, NSW.

This is a great opportunity to find out what annecto, community organisations and local businesses can offer in the Dareton area.

This year’s NAIDOC theme is Songlines: The living narrative of our nation.  Songlines are intricate maps of land, sea and sky across the country.  They indicate travel and trade routes, food and water hole locations.  Passed down through song and storytelling through thousands of years, these important cultural stories traverse many Aboriginal language groups.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are running across the nation during the week of 3 – 10 July 2016. You can find an event near you at theNAIDOC website.
