151122 AnnectoAGM 0042 LR 02

Announced at the 2015 Annual General Meeting were two organisations and one individual who all deservedly won this year’s annecto Awards.

Winning the annecto Inclusion Award for 2015 were Babana Aboriginal Men’s Group and Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation, both from NSW.

Babana Aboriginal Men’s Group established the Coloured Diggers March which takes place during ANZAC commemorations, to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and servicewomen and those who served in non- military support roles.  Babana acknowledge the spirit of genuine equality in the armed forces and in this same spirit invite all people from any race, religion or political affiliation to attend and commemorate this event. annecto acknowledge Babana’s generous and inclusive approach in reaching out to all people as a foundation for the Coloured Diggers March.

Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation assists Kinchela men, their families and communities recover their identity, dignity and well-being through reconnecting with their families, communities, culture and land. annecto acknowledges KBHAC’s partnership with annecto in helping us develop culturally appropriate ways of working with members of the Stolen Generations and their families.

Jackie Ross won the 2015 Ron Cahill Award for showing exemplary dedication to staff, volunteers and to people receiving practical assistance through services at annecto David House.  Jackie illustrates excellent problem-solving skills, often during very busy times; providing a positive can-do attitude and energy to all who come into contact with her. She was also instrumental in changing the way we approach transitioning older people with a disability to retirement. In accepting her award, Jackie said “Very rarely am I lost for words, but I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without the great staff at David House.”
