Supporting independence: A case manager's story

This month, we share a case manager’s story. Claudia, Case Manager at Annecto, tells us about her experience working in aged care and getting to know Katina.

At Annecto, the people we support are unique individuals, each having their own stories and life experiences. However, a common characteristic they all share is a fiercely independent need to do things on their own, and to not burden their families or others with their changing needs.

Breaking barriers - Ability Fest

Ability Fest celebrates diversity, inclusion and people living with a disability. The much anticipated Ability Fest returned to Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr on 25 March 2023.

A not-for-profit event, Ability Fest is Australia’s first all-accessible music festival and a leader for inclusive events, using the power of music and the arts to destigmatise disabilities.

The Dylan Alcott Foundation partnered with Untitled Group to organise the event, and once again delivered a great day of inclusivity and accessibility for individuals of all abilities.

New Annecto office opening in Wendouree

On Tuesday 14 February, the Annecto Western and Grampians region team officially opened their new office in Wendouree, a suburb of Ballarat, Victoria.

While most people were sharing proofs of love on Valentine’s Day, our Annecto staff was working towards developing new relationships with locals from the Ballarat region.

“We want to be truly part of the community in which we operate. So that people can come to us, walk in and find out how to navigate the NDIS or the aged care system,” Cheryl De Zilwa, CEO of Annecto said during the event.

Living independently at home at 98

This month, we had a chat with Joan, one of Annecto’s aged care supports customers in regional Victoria, about her experience living independently in her own home.

Joan is 98 years old. She lives in the Grampians region. In the very same house that she and her late husband Graham bought 60 years ago. Recently, Snowy the dog found his way to her, and the two of them have been living happily together since.

Joan’s younger son got in touch with Annecto to support his mum to keep living independently in her home.
