Families & Carers

Supporting families, carers and the people they care for.

We take a flexible and innovative approach to working with the carers to provide a break. annecto works with carers to older people, people with disability, and families with children. We listen and plan with you to find out what’s important to you. This may include:

  • Arranging for the person you care for to be supported at home while you are out spending time with family, shopping or other social activities
  • Supporting them to look at what activities they would like to do or learn, such as learning how to play a musical instrument or to use a computer, going to a sporting match or joining a local gardening group
  • Supporting the person you care for to be more connected within you local community, including meeting new people or catching up with friends.

We ensure that your support worker is a culturally appropriate ‘fit’ to your family, committed to working towards meeting the goals of the person with the disability.

Some examples are:

  • Help to purchase a home computer
  • Carer retreats and weekends away – in both individual and group settings
  • Computer classes
  • The Men’s Dementia Group
  • Art therapy
  • Centre based workplace training

Computer classes provide an opportunity to socialize and learn how to access and search the internet, create email and facebook accounts and to store information and images on a USB drive. The classes gave participants the confidence to purchase computers for use at home, implement broadband, Skype and install webcam to communicate with relatives in Australia and overseas.

Friendships developed from the computer cafe led to classmates catching up outside of class as well.

Providing support for carers in rural and remote locations

annecto recognises the special needs of those carers living in rural and remote locations. It’s not always easy for carers and the people they care for to travel long distances to receive much needed respite.

We provide flexible in-home overnight respite for carers in and around Mildura who are currently providing care for frail older people or people  who have dementia.

We also offer cottage style accommodation for carers and the people they care for to stay together. During their stay carers will have the opportunity to engage in the many activities on offer in Mildura, and to feel reassured that during their absence the people they care for will receive the best possible care and support from our trained staff.

Pindari Avenue Respite Service is out-of-home respite where the person receives support in a home-like environment or attends a service or activity, such as holiday camps and short trips.

Carers and parents can use Pindari Respite Service on a short-term basis, for an overnight stay, weekends and longer stays on request and availability.

Pindari enables people with disability to enjoy their experiences while staying in respite. Carers can be assured that annecto offers flexible support to ensure that individual needs are met and respected.

"thank you so very very much for the fabulous holiday my daughter has just had at Halls Gap. She hasnít stopped talking about the kangaroos, the drives, the walks, the swimming, the meals!... it wasnít just a holiday for my daughter.. it was a break for me and for that I am eternally grateful.”- JM
“thank you to all at Pindari who, over the past twelve months have shown  care and concern for my son during his stay there. He absolutely loves going to Pindari as evidenced by the delight shown when advised he will be having a weekend there. As well as the time out from the family, he loves the interaction with the other people staying there. I know I am leaving him in good hands... these breaks certainly lighten my load.”-  BV
